Philosophy of GPISD Science
The mission of the Galena Park Independent School District is to prepare students to become productive citizens and lifelong learners. We feel that by engaging our students in exciting investigations that incorporate higher level critical thinking skills, we can ensure success for all of our students.Furthermore, science is an extension of everyone's natural curiosity and is a resource for becoming a critical and engaged citizen. The GPISD science department seeks to cultivate student's scientific habits of mind, develop their ability to engage in scientific inquiry, and foster their reasoning skills in scientific contexts.
Announcements
The State Board of Education (SBOE) TEKS review and revision process calls for multiple, separate work groups to make recommendations to the SBOE for revisions to the current standards. SBOE members nominate individuals, including educators, parents, business and industry representatives, and employers, to serve on TEKS review work groups. This science TEKS review process was underway during the 19-20 school year to review the Science TEKS. Due to COVID-19, the Science TEKS review went on a brief hold. As of August 2020, the science TEKS review and revision process has resumed.
