Kim Topps is a Christian influencer, author, servant leader, coach, public speaker, entrepreneur, and engineer. She was educated in the Galena Park Independent School District. Upon graduating, Kim attended Lamar University, where she was a member of the Women's Track Team. She later transferred to the University of Houston to complete her studies. Kim holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from LeTourneau University.
Professionally, Kim has worked on the International Space Station (ISS) Space Training Facility, Command and Control Software, and the Orion Shuttle project as a Senior Software Engineer for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). She has also contributed to various automation projects for Dow Chemical Company and Mbroh Engineering, Inc. Additionally, Kim has served as an Engineering Consultant for Pro Welder, LLC, Vice President of T. R. Grace Company, and owner of Top Event Planners, Top Resume Coaches & STAR Coaching. Recently, NASA sought her out to return, and she is currently a Senior Software Assurance Engineer working on the new generation of space suits for ARTEMIS.
Kim is active in several organizations. In July 2021, she was elected to serve as a Board Member for the Alzheimer's Association of Houston and Southeast Texas and was appointed to serve as the Executive Longest Day Chairman for the chapter for 2022-2023. She is also a member of the Boeing Toastmasters International club, where she currently serves as the club's President and has previously held positions as Treasurer and Secretary. Kim has also served as Area P2 Governor for District 56 of Toastmasters International.
As an inaugural Board Member of the University of Houston's PROMES Advisory Board, Kim has demonstrated her commitment to education. She has also served as a board member and treasurer of the University of Houston Engineering Alumni Association. In 2019, Kim became a Life Member of the University of Houston Alumni Association. Since 2001, she has been a board member of Friends of the La Porte Library and has been a member of the Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated – Houston Chapter since 2013. Kim has served on the Education Committee for Young Audiences of Houston since 2018.
Kim is also a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA), Incorporated - Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter, where she has served in several capacities, including Vice President, Treasurer, Connection Chairman, AKA Prayer & Bible Study Cluster Coordinator, and as a member of the Graduate Advisor's Council. Under her leadership, the Connection Committee registered over 54,000 new citizens to vote, led the planning of her chapter's inaugural Alpha Kappa Omega Day at City Hall, planned several Candidate and Community Forums, and organized transportation for the chapter's largest delegation to the bi-Annual AKA Day at the State Capitol for the South Central Region in Austin, Texas.
In June 2016, Kim was appointed to serve as the AKA South Central Region's Texas State Connection Coordinator, a role she successfully held until 2019. In this position, she coordinated and led chapters across the entire state of Texas, including planning the region's two largest advocacy days with over 350 members at the Bi-Annual AKA Day at the State Capitol for the South Central Region in Austin, Texas.
Kim is a member of HOPE Church Pearland under the leadership of Pastor Thaddeus R. Eastland. She has served in many capacities and is currently a member of the Partners In Warfare Intercessory Prayer team, a teacher for the Seed Time at Harvest - Youth & Young Adult Sunday School class, and is involved in the HOPE Prison Ministry and HOPE Outreach Ministries.
Her dedication to community service has earned Kim numerous awards, including the 2023 Pioneer in the Community Award from the Knights of Peter Claver and the Council Court 72, First Place for the Faye B. Bryant Humans Relations Award, and the Jewel M. Thomas Visionary Award. She has also received the 2017 Houston Lawyers Association Aloysius M. Wickliff, Sr. Community Service Award, the 2017 Deralyn Riles Davis Spirit Award, and the AKA South Central Region's 2014 Soror of the Year Award, among others.
As an elevation speaker, Kim has inspired and encouraged youth groups and business professionals. She coaches individuals and small groups to help each person reach their God-given destiny and higher purpose. Drawing from years of intensive experience and personal achievement, Kim coaches using God's wisdom and has learned how to turn her pain into purpose.
Kim is preparing to release her first published book, "In the Pursuit of Purpose, Peace & Progress: How Success Through Action & Responsibility (STAR) Can Create A Better Future." This book is written for those who know they have what it takes but keep falling short, as well as those who may already be successful but know there is a higher purpose and calling in their lives.
Kim is the eldest daughter of Una Topps and the late Rev. Floyd Topps, Jr. She has one brother, Cedric, and one sister, Chandra; two adorable nieces, Ashley and Crista; three charming nephews, Jeremiah, Joseph, and Alijah, and a host of God Children. While Kim stays active in serving her community, she enjoys tutoring, running, scuba diving, traveling, and planning events. She has always been passionate about voter registration, voter education, and ensuring fair treatment for all.
Kim's greatest mission is serving the Lord and making a difference in the lives of others. She has consistently served her community in various capacities and leadership roles throughout the years, embodying her commitment to faith, education, and community service.
